He is almost certainly the George William Taylor who was a member of the 55th Virginia Infantry during the Civil War: Taylor, George William: Enl. 5/28/61 in Co. A. Absent sick 4-5/62 and 6/26/62-summer-fall/62. Present then on all rolls until captured at Falling Waters 7/14/63. Took the Oath and joined the U. S. Army 2/25/64. Later escaped from the U. S. Army and walked over 100 miles to a Confederate railroad. Rejoined the 55th Va. summer/64. Went AWOL to visit his widowed mother, 10/64. Under arrest, awaiting court martial, as at 11/28/64.
