On 2 March 1898, a deed was made between Lucinda C. Johnson, Martha E. Crow, Ann E. Jordon, Mary E. Boughan, James A. Taylor, Georgianna Boughan, John W. Verlander, Elizabeth F. Boughan, and James H. Verlander of the first part, and Christian Mallory Dietrich of the second part. For $500, the parties of the first part grant unto the parties of the second part a tract of land which the late Henry Beazley died seized and possessed, lying on the right hand side of the road leading from Henley’s Ford to Mount Zion Church, containing 174 acres. On 7 February 1931, James Henry Verlander died in Dunnsville, Rappahannock District, Essex County, Virginia. He was a resident of Dunnsville; male; white; married; married to Susie Verlander; born 20 May 1851; age at death 79 years, 8 months, 12 days; born in Essex County, Virginia; father was James Verlander, who was born in Essex County, Virginia; mother was Elizabeth Beazley, who was born in Essex County, Virginia; informant Charles Verlander of Ozeana; attended by physician from 1930 to 7 February 1931, when he was last seen alive; cause of death “Infirmaties of age. This man had a large aortic aneurysm … that cause poor circulation & general weakness for several years past. It is not known whether the aneurysm ruptured” and, on a second, more cleanly written copy of the certificate (with the same number) more cleanly written, “Aneurysm of abdominal aorta for many years — Did not rupture, but so large as to cause feeble circulation,” with secondary causes of death on the second certificate listed as cystitis and pylitis. He was buried with his wife Susie at Ephesus Baptist Church in Dunnsville, Virginia. There was a wreath on the grave on 20 January 1992. The headstone provides birth and death dates of 20 May 1851 and 8 February 1931.
