On 1 February 1894 a deed was made between Henry E. Brooks and Lillie his wife, Warner L. Beazley and Fannie his wife, Jennet C. Beazley, Vestilla F. Beazley, and James B. Beazley of the first part, and A. G. Courtney of the second part, all of Essex County. The parties of the first part sell land of James Beazley deceased. James B. Beazley is a minor and therefore cannot formally convey his share until he reaches the age of 21. [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 57, pages 313–314.]

James Irving Brooks wrote: “After the estate [her father’s] was settled Jeanette attended Burkeville Female Institute.” He added that after her sister Lillian died in 1896, Janette took care of Lillian’s children. “In the interim before her marriage in 1902, Jeannette was governess at the Virginia Baptist Orphanage, Salem, Virginia. She spent her vacations and spare time at the Brooks home and saw that they boys had good reading materials. Until her death she referred to them as ‘My Boys.’ Jeanette and Vestilla both looked upon their older sister ‘Lillie’, with the respect dua a mother and they tok special interest in her five boys.”

E. A. Jackson married J. C. Beazley in Essex County, Virginia on 31 December 1902. He was 25, born in Washington, D.C., and was living in Bahia, Brazil, a missionary. She was 32, born and living in Essex County, Virginia. His parents were S. A. Jackson and Mary Ernest, hers were Jas. Beazley and Cath. Boughan. Married by F. B. Beale.
