On 20 September 1779, Thomas Ryland and Jaelly his wife and Betty Chick of the County of Essex sold to Nathanial Saunders Crow of the same. For six hundred & Twenty pounds three shillings & six pence Currt. money of Virginia, a parcel of land in the county aforesaid adjoining the Land of the above mentioned Nathl. S. Crow purchased of Morris Broach, & is parte of Braxton Mount Maple Tract, containing one hundred and Eighty five acres, bounded by the land of Richard Ryland. Signed Thomas Ryland, Jael Ryland, Elisabeth Chick. No witnesses. On 20 September 1779, acknowledged in court and ordered to be recorded. [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 31, pages 481–482.]
