On 18 September 1815, a case in chancery court was begun by Henry Boughan and Julia his wife, James Wood and Fountain Wood an infant by Sally Wood his mother guardian & next friend, and Maria G Wood, Catharine C Wood & Muscoe Wood infants by John J Garnett their next friend and Catharine Dix, plaintiffs, against Lewis Dix admor &c of Thomas Wood Sen: decd, Philip B Pendleton and Polly his wife, Elizabeth Dix, Edward B Wood, Catharine Wood, Thomas Wood and Wm Wood and Rebecca Wood infants under the age of 21 years, Ophelia Wood and Norbone Wood infants under the age of 21 Years, defendants. [Essex County, Virginia, Order Book 42, pages 57–58.]

On 20 November 1817, Essex County court settled a chancery suit concerning the division of the estate of Thomas Wood senior. The estate was divided between Catharine Dix, wife of James Dix, who was Catharine Wood; the heirs of William Wood; the heirs of Carter Wood; the heirs of Thomas Wood Jr.; and the heirs of Joseph Wood. The heirs of William Wood were Henry H. Boughan in right of his wife Julia, James Wood, and Fontaine Wood. The heirs of Carter Wood were William B. Matthews in right of his wife Maria G., John H. Micou in right of his wife Catharine C., and Muscoe Wood. The heirs of Thomas Wood Jr. were George Newman in right of his wife Elizabeth, Edward B. Wood, Philip B. Pendleton in right of his wife Polly, Catharine Wood, Thomas Wood, Rebecca Wood and William Wood. The heirs of Joseph Wood were Norborne Wood and Ophelia Wood. In an undated petition, orator James Ross complained that Laurence Muse was indebted to James Ross. Laurence Muse died on ___ 1832 intestate leaving a widow Martha Muse and the following persons to wit Saml Muse a brother Elizabeth Parker a sister Laurence Muse a son of another decd brother James Muse, Martha the wife of Octavius Harwer, William Muse, Samuel C. [O.?] Muse Mortimore Muse & Lucinda wife of Muscoe G Wood children of another decd brother Sally Spence wife of Edward Spence, Elizabeth Cox William R Sisson & Ann the wife of Henry Fauntelroy children of another decd sister and John Underwood & Richard Underwood infant grand children of the same sister and Ann Hungerford only child of a decd half sister his only heirs. On 13 and/or 14 November 1834, Muscoe G Wood purchased property at the sale of the estate of Major Arthur L. Barnes. [Essex County, Virignia, Will Book 24, pages 12–20.]

On 27 June 1838, M. G. Wood witnessed a bond from Lucy Boughan unto Philip Montague, executor of Elizabeth M. Boughan. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, page 303.]

On July 1839, Jas. Semple, Muscoe G Wood, John H Smither, John Bird, William Wright, William S Croxton, Thomas Harper, George Rose, Lewis D Brookes Was H Purkins, George M Trible & William F Burnett served on the jury of an inquisition at the home of Frances Boughan into the death of an infant child by Mary, the property of Lucy Boughan and upon the land of Washington H Purkins. On 4 August 1840, an inventory and appraisal of the estate of John Minter, deceased, was made by Was: H: Purkins, James Semple, and M: G: Wood. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, pages 502–504.]

On 13 March 1841, Henry H. Boughan, as coroner for Essex County, led an inquisition taken at the public highway near Mrs. Elizabeth B. Allen’s (deceased) into the death of Henry, a slave the property of Mrs. Elizabeth Hundley, then and there lying dead. A jury consisting of James Semple, M G Wood, Jas Durham, John J Wright, Henry Crow, Z. M. P. Carter, Baylor W Hill, Johnson Games, Philip Coleman, Willis Brooks, Caleb A Noel and Wm S Croxton state that Henry came to his death on the 12th Day of March, that he had no marks of violence, and died by being chilled to death. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, page 589.]

On 20 November 1844, M. G. Wood served on the jury of an inquisition concerning the death of Thomas J. G. B. Allen. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 25, page 332.]

On 23 January 1846, Muscoe G. Wood complained to the Circuit Superior Court of Law and Chancery for the County of Essex that on 19 April 1843 he purchased from Orville Jeffries a tract in Essex of 175 acres. Your orator executed bonds to Jeffries and to secure payment executed a deed of trust conveying to Muscoe Garnett a tract and slaves. Muscoe Garnett is about to proceed with the sale. When Orville Jeffries sold him land, Orville Jeffries represented he was the sole owner. Richard J. Muse as trustee for James Foreacres and his wife and children claims good title to eight to twelve acres. [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 51, item 51-K-2.]

On 9 April 1846, Orville Jeffries filed answer to a bill exhibited against him by Muscoe G. Wood. [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 51, item 51-K-8.]
