Samuel C. Baughan died on 23 May 1996. An death notice from The Washington Post states: Baughan, Samuel C. On May 23, 1996, of Leesburg, VA, husband of Effie W. Baughan; father of Jerry E. Baughan of Australia, Dennis L. Baughan of Herndon, VA and Shirley B. Courtney of Tappahannock, VA. Also survived by 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren. Mr. Baughan was born in Essex County, VA and operated a grocery store in Washington DC from 1946 to 1949 and from 1949 to 1957, he operated Dove's General Store in the Navy Community near Herndon; from 1957 to 1968, he and his wife, Effie operated Loudoun Supermarket at Herndon Junction. He later worked as a meat-cutter for IGA and the Country Butcher in Leesburg, VA until he retired at the age of 82. On Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. the family will receive friends at GREEN FUNERAL HOME, 721 Elden Street, Herndon, VA where funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 26 followed by graveside services at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 28 at Ft. Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, MD. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 7203 Poplar Street, Annandale, VA 22003. [The Washington Post, 24 May 1996, page B6.]
