On 15 February 1768, on the motion of John Boughan, James Croxton and Thomas Chilton, Essex County court ordered that John Edmondson, James Booker, Thomas Wood and James Banks or any three of them settle the administration of James Munday and divide and allot the estate according to law. [Essex County, Virginia, Order Book 27, page 45.]
On 19 March 1770, in the case of Thomas Shelton and Catharine his wife, Complainants, against John Boughan & Ursula his wife, James Croxton & Mary his wife, Lucy Munday Widow, Lucy Munday & Eliza. Munday Infants, Defendants, In Chancery, The former Order for James Booker, John Edmondson the elder, Thomas Wood John Edmondson Junr. and James Banks or any three of them to settle and divide the Estate of James Munday deceased is Continued, and it is further ordered and Decreed that the same Gentlemen or any three of them as aforesaid do Divide the Estate which was the Widow’s property in right of Dower of the said James Munday deceased’s Estate (who is lately dead) among the several Claimants and allot to each of them their proportions thereof according to Law, and that if necessary they make sale of all or any Negroes belonging to the said Estate in order to compleat the Division, returning and account of their proceedings therein to the Court. He is listed as the husband of Katharine Munday in the division of the estate of Katharine’s father James Munday in 1771. [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 30, pp. 506-508.]
On 16 November 1772, Thomas Shelton & Caty his wife of the County of Brunswick & Meherrin Parish sold to James Croxton of the County of Essex. For £27.18 Current Money, a Parcel of Land in Essex County formerly belonging to James Monday Decd Since the said land has been Divided Amongst the Coheirs of the said Decd the said Caty Being one of them, Bordering land of James Banks & William Dunn, James Croxton, and Capt. Thomas Roane, it Being that Park of the Land Whereon the said James Munday Decd formerly lived Containing by Estimation fifty Eight And three quarter acres more or less. Signed Thos. On 22 May 1775, William Robinson and Lucy his Wife of Brunswick County sold to Thos. Shelton of the same. For £66 Current money of Virginia, a Tract of Land in Brunswick County and Meherrin Parrish, Containing 314 acres more or less, bounded by Peter Vinson, the said Robinson, and John Vinson. Signed Wm. Robinson, Lucy Robinson. Witnesses: William Garner, John Brewer[?], Richard Woodrought, Little Berry Robinson, Wm. Foal[?], James Soloman. On 23 October 1775 ordered to be recorded. On 16 February 1777, Thomas Shelton and Catharine his wife of the County of Brunswick sold to James Wosdin of the same. For £37 Current Money of Virginia, a Trace of 100 acres more or less by estimation Situated in Brunswick County in Meherrin Parrish being part of that Land the said Shelton bought of William Robinson Junior, bordering William Deals Line, John Massey, and a dividing made by the said Shelton & the said Wosdin. Signed Thomas Shelton, Catharine her x mark Shelton. Witnesses: Peter Vinson, Thomas his T mark Moss, Joshua Vinson. On 24 November 1777 ordered to be recorded. On 17 September 1801, Thomas Shelton and Catharine his wife of the County of Greensville sold to Frederick Shelton. For £178.16 Virginia Money, a Tract of Land lying on South side of Linch’s branch in Greensville County containing by estimation Twn Hundred fourteen Acres, more or less, bordering William Moss, Rebekah Stewart, and Frederick Shelton’s line formerly Ann Massey’s line, it being part of the Land that the said Thomas Shelton bought of William Robinson. Signed Thomas Shelton, Catharine her + mark Shelton. Witnesses: Wm Tomlinson jr., John Rosser junr., Wm his + mark Moss, Lews Smith. [Greensville County, Virginia, Deed Book 3, pages 71–72.]
