On 15 January 1722, William Winston, Henry Tandy, a James Garnett and John Allen bound £200 sterling for William Winston’s and Henry Tandy’s administration of the goods, chattles and credits of Alexr Somervell deceased. On 21 March 1743, a James Garnett Gent and John Gatewood were bound £50 for James Garnett’s administration of the goods, chattles and credits of John Spiers deceased. Signed Jas Garnett, John his E mark Gatewood. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 7, pages 109–110.]

On 17 August 1754, Berryman Brown and Mary his wife of the County of Essex sold to a James Garnett of the same. For £15 pounds current money, 50 acres more or less. Dated 17 August 1754. On 16/17 June 1755, Robert Brooking and Francis his wife of King and Queen County sold to a James Garnett of Essex County. Lease and release. For 5 shillings/£450 current money, 375 acres. Lease dated 16 June 1755, release dated 17 June 1755. Signed Robt Brooking, Frances Brooking. Witnesses: R Brooke, John Rowzee, Wm Yerby. Recorded 17 June 1755. On 4 December 1755, in a pole of freeholders for electing burgesses in Essex County, a Captain James Garnett received a total of 158 votes, including those of Isaac Gatewood, John Conoly, James Dix, Benja. Beesley, Stephen Munday, Thomas Munday, John Allen, Phillip Gatewood, Joseph Reeves, Cornelius Noel, Joseph Burnett, John Gordan, James Munday, and Willm. Munday. On 13 November 1756, a James Garnett Gentleman of Essex County sold to Cornelius Noel Yeoman of the same. Witnesses: Jno Rowzee, DGaines, Ralph Rowzee, Thomas Ramsey. Recorded 15 March 1757. [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 27, pages 274–275.]
