John Edmondson was mentioned in the 19 August 1741 will of his father James Edmondson was dated 19 August 1741. He was to receive land on the west side of the Swamp that runs into Dunns Mill Dam, and was named an executor of the will. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 6, pages 340–341.]

An inventory of the estate of John Pagett was made by Wm Dunn, James Boughan Jr and a John Edmondson. No total. Ordered recorded 20 August 1745. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 7, pages 357–358.]

An inventory of the estate of Benja Fisher deceased ordered 20 August 1745 was made by Thomas Edmondson, a John Edmondson and William Covington. Wm Dunn administrator. Ordered recorded 17 March 1746. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 7, pages 504–505.]

On 6 February 1746, a John Edmondson witnessed the will of Mary Edmondson of the Parish of St. Anne and County of Essex. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 8, page 102.]

On 20 December 1748, Robert Edmondson, Thomas Leeman and a John Edmondson were bound £500 current money for Robert Edmondson’s execution of the last will and testament of Mary Edmondson. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 8, pages 102–103.]

On 18 December 1750, Constance Edmondson, Thos Edmondson Junior and John Edmondson were bound £500 for Constance Edmondson’s and Thomas Edmondson’s administration of the goods chattles and credits of Thomas Edmondson deceased. On 16 July 1751, Anner Edmondson, a Jno Edmondson, Henry Motley and Robert Harbin were bound £500 for Anner Edmondson’s administration of the goods, chattles and credits of Robert Edmondson. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 9, pages 74–75.]

On 28 October 1752, Waters Dunn of the County of Essex sold to John Edmondson and William Dunn of the County of Essex. For £300 current money, seven Negroes named Moll, Lilley, Rose, Tom, Violet, Jemmy, and Bacckus, together with their future increase, together with household furniture and cattle, Provided always and it is hereby agreed by and between the said parties that if the sd Waters Dunn do at upon or before the first day of may next ensuing the date hereof will & truly pay or Cause to be paid unto the said John Edmondson & William Dunn the aforesaid Sum of Three Hundred pounds current money of Virginia, and that Waters Dunn shall be in the actual possession of the sd Slaves and all the aforementioned premises. On 4 December 1755, a John Edmondson cast votes for Mr. John Upshaw and Colonel William Daingerfield for burgesses of Essex County. [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 27, pages 248–252.]

On 18 July 1758, William Dunn and a John Edmondson bound £500 current money for William Dunn’s execution of the last will and testament of Joseph Greenhill. Signed Wm Dunn, John Edmondson. [Essex County, Will Book 11, pages 117–118.]

On 15 August 1758, an inventory and appraisal of the estate of John Croxton was recorded, made by a John Edmondson, James Booker and Joseph Ryland. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 11, pages 121–123.]

On 3 May 1762, a J. Edmondson witnessed a deed from John Clements to John Boughan. [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 29, pages 119–120.]

By order of November 1768, an appraisal and division of the estate of William Gatewood was made by a J: Edmondson, James Booker and James Banks. Ordered recorded 17 July 1769. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 12, pages 368–369.]

On 17 July 1769, by order of the November Court 1768, an inventory and appraisal of the estate of Catherine Gatewood was returned, made by a J. Edmondson, James Banks and William Dunn B. On 15 April 1771, John Edmondson and Catherine his wife of the parish of southfarnham and County of Essex sold to Thos Wood of the same. For £36.10 current money, a tract of land beginning at a corner in the Road on the line between the sd Edmondson and Wood, bordering land of James Booker, amounting to 73 acres. Signed J. On 15 December 1773, the appraisal of the estate of John Edmondson deceased was made by James Booker, James Banks, William Dunn and Thomas Wood. No total. Recorded 17 October 1774. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 12, pages 597–599.]

The estate of John Edmondson in account with James Edmondson from 1774 to 1778 was settled by James Jones, Geo. W. Smith and Richard Banks junr and recorded on 18 June 1792. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 14, page 316.]

On 21 August 1775, Winney Dunn of the Parish and Southfarnham and County of Essex made a deed of gift to Caty Edmondson of the same. For and In consideration of the love, goodwill and affection which I have and do bear toward my loving daughter Caty Edmondson, all my right and Title to the Mill which formerly belonged to my land Husband William Dunn and Thomas Dunn his Brother, and lately was held by my son William Dunn and John Edmondson Deceased, Husband to the said Caty, situated on Matthews’s Swamp. Signed Winney her + mark Dunn. Witnesses: James Booker, John Webb Junr., William Edmondson, James Edmondson jr. On 20 March 1801, Caty Edmondson, William Purkins and William Edmondson complained in court against Carter Croxton, executor of William Dunn. The complaint concerns the old Dunn mill and states that Caty’s mother was Winney Dunn. [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 22, item 22-K-19.] The answer of Carter Croxton filed on 21 June 1802 states that Winney Dunn died on 20 July 1793 and that the plaintiff’s husband John Edmondson died in 1773. [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 22, item 22-K-18.] An affidavit given in this case by James Croxton on 15 July 1801 or 1802 states that this William Dunn was William Dunn (B). [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 22, item 22-K-12.]
