On 7 January 1702, Thomas Wood of the County of Essex, for the naturall Love & affection I have to my Grandchildren & for their furthur advancement & benefitt & Especially for and in Consideracon of the paymt of the sume 18:14:4 by them to be made unto William Cox of the sd County when they or any of them come to the age of one & twenty years, I give to my Grandsonn John Wood after my decease all my Land and plantation where I now live scituate in the County aforesd and on the branches of a great Swamp called or knowne by the Name of Pescataway Pakasone, Provided alwayes that if my GrandSonn John Wood do happen to dye without Issue then my Grandson Thomas Wood Shall have hold occupy the land, but if Thomas should die without heires then my Granddaugher Elizabeth Wood shall hold & enjoy the land, but if it soe happen shee die without Issue then William Cox of the abovesd County father in Law to my sd Grandchildren shall have & enjoy my sd Land & plantation in lieu of the sum of 18:14:4. On 13 December 1718, Wm Cox, Tho: Meedes and Elizabeth his wife, John Wood and Thomas Wood of the parish of Southfarnham and County of Essex, planters, sold to Bryant Edmondson of the same. For £35 sterling, the remainder of a tract of 400 acres bordering Majr Wm Aylett, Alexander Younger, part of an original tract of land of ffrancis Brown, Daniel Brown, John ffarguson and James ffarguson, 150 acres total or thereabouts. Signed Wm his C mark Cox, Tho his T mark Meedes, John his + mark Wood, Tho: his T mark Wood, Elizabeth her E mark Meede. Witnesses: Alexander Younger, James Boughan, Wm his + mark Dicks. Ordered recorded 16 December 1718. [Essex County, Deed Book 15, pages 257–259.]

On 21 March 1764, in the case of Joseph Good Title Lessee of John Meadors, Plt, against Samuel Croxton, Deft., In Ejectment, Came the Parties aforesaid by their Attornies and agreed to file the following Case. “We agree Thos. Wood in his life time was Seised & Possessed of the Land & Premises in Decr. mentd. in fee We agree a Deed from Thos. Wood to John Wood Eliza. Wood & William Cox Bearing date the 7 day of Janr. 1702 in these Words to all &c. Which Lands are the Premises in the Decr. mentioned We agree that the said Eliza. afterwards intermarried with Thomas Meadors and that the sd. Thomas Meadors and Eliza. his Wife together with the sd. Thos. Wood John Wood & Willm. Cox Executed Deeds Bearing date the [blank] day of December 1718 to one Bryant Edmundson for the sd. Lande in the Decr. mentioned which Deed follows in these Words This Indt. &c. We agree a Deed from the sd. Bryant Edmundson to one John Croxton since decd. which Deed Bears Date the 14 day of March 1705 & is in these Words This &c. We agree the Will of the said John Croxton Bearg. date the [blank] day of [blank] 17[blank] in these Words In the name &c. We agree that the Defendt. is son and Devisee in the Will of the said John Croxton named We agree that John Meadors the lessor of the Pltf. is the son and heir at Law of the sd. Thos. Meadors & Eliza. his wife & that Thomas Wood John Wood & Wm. Cox are since dead without Issue of their Bodies Lawfully begotten We agree that the said Defendant and those under whom he Claims have been in quiet & Peaceable Possession of the Premises from the said [blank] day of December 1718[?] We agree the lease Entry and Ouster in the Declaration mentioned upon the whole if the Law be for the Plt we agree that Judgment whall go agst. the Defendt. for the Lands & Premises in the sd. Decr. mentioned & one Shilling Damages Otherwise We find for the Defendant Alexr. Rose Atto. for the Plt. Richard Parker Atto. for Defendant And the Proceedings are continued, till the next Court for the arguments of the said parties to be heard on the Case agreed aforesaid [Essex County, Virginia, Order Book 25, pages 152–152.]
