Isaac Gatewood was mentioned in the 3 May 1782 will of his brother, William Gatewood, proved 18 May 1782. “Lastly I nominate & Appoint my Sister Amy Gatewood & Richard Allen And my Brother Isaac Gatewood Managers of this my last wil and Testament…” [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 13, pages 373–374.]

On 16 September 1793, Rickard Burk, Isaac Gatewood, and John Chenault were bound £300 for Rickard Burk’s administration of the estate of Caleb Gatewood. Signed Rickard Burk, Isaac Gatewood, John Chenault. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 15, page 57.]

The will of Isaac Gatewood was written 30 January 1804. To deer beloved wife & four [sic] small children tract of land. Sons Richard, William Robert. Daughters Caty and Nancy (Catharine and Ann). Some land borders that of Mrs. Burke. Signed Isaac Gatewood. Witnesses: John Harper, Thomas Harper, Stephen Johnston. Proved 16 April 1804. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 16, pages 276–277.]

On 16 July 1804, Robert Gatewood, Wm Gatewood and Wm Howard were bound $1,000 for Robert Gatewood’s executorship of the estate of Isaac Gatewood. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 16, page 299.]

In August 1804, an appraisal of the estate of Isaac Gatewood was made by Ewen Clements, Richard Meador, and John Games, and was submitted to court and ordered recorded on 18 February 1805. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 16, pages 349–350.]

On 20 April 1807, William Gatewood and Edward Ware were bound in the penalty of $1,000 for William Gatewood’s administration of the estate of Isaac Gatewood. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 17, page 12.]
