On 20 May 1819, Linaeus C. Gatewood witnessed the will of John Jones. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 19, pages 51–53.]

The estate of William Edmondson deceased in account with Thos M. Henley for the year 1817 was settled by Richd Motley, L. C. Gatewood, Walter Bowie, and W. Fisher. Recorded 19 August 1822. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 19, pages 322–323.]

On 21 April 1823, William H. Hill, Joseph P. Hill, Fontaine Wood, Laneas C. Gatewood and George Wright were bound in the penalty of $15,000 for William H. Hill’s executorship of the estate of Thomas Hill, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 19, pages 372–373.]

In July 1824, Martha Hill, widow of Thomas Hill, discharged Linneas C. Gatewood from any responsibility as security for her son William H. Hill, executor of Thomas Hill. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 20, page 65.]

On 28 January 1836, an inventory and appraisal of the estate of John H. Upshaw, deceased, was made by L. C. Gatewood, Rd. Motley, and Wm H Hutchason. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 23, pages 459–460.]

On 22 August 1836, L C Gatewood witnessed the will of Benjamin L. Fisher and proved the will in court on 19 September 1836. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, page 65.]

A bill of complaint states that William F. Gatewood left a daughter Polly who married John Clarkson, son Philip P., son Leneus C., grandson Thomas. He also had a son John H. who died. He left a widow Sally. [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 25, item 25-I-18.]

On 17 July 1837, Bevan D. Pitts, Reuben L. Pitts, Edward Wright, Wm. A. Wright, Albert G. Oneale, Lineus C. Gatewood, and David P. Wright were bound in the penalty of $150,000 for Bevan D. Pitts’s administration with the will annexed of the estate of David W. Pitts, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, page 140.]
