On 6 February 1753, a deed of trust was made between Thomas St. John of the first part, James McCall of the second part, and Henry Purkins of the third part. On 18 June 1754, Thomas St. John witnessed a deed from Gilbert Noell of the County of Essex to John Champe Gentleman of the County of King George. [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 27, pages 8–10.]
On 16 September 1755, Thomas St. John and Amy his wife of the County of Essex and Parish of Southfarnham sold to John Clements of the same, Physician. For £18 current money, 100 acres more or less in the same county and parish bordering land of Colo John Robinson, Ambrose Jones, James Banks. Signed Thomas St John, Amy her x mark St John. The will of Thomas St. John of Essex County was dated 25 April 1780. Very sick and weak. Granddaughters: Martha Mitchel, Elizabeth Gordon. Grandsons William and Alexander. Son-in-law William, but last name is lost because of a hole in the paper—look like it was probably Vass. Daughter Rachel Gordon. Son Thomas St. John, 1 shilling. Daughters Febee Dobbyns (1 shilling), Sarah St. John (1 shilling), Peggy Fogg, and Elizabeth Vass. Executors: William Vass, James Banks and James Banks Jr. Signed Thomas his ( mark St. John. On 10 December 1785, Thomas St. John, deceased, was mentioned as a bordering landowner to a tract sold by William Banks, James Banks and Statira his wife (whose name also appears as Stati Re) of the parish of southfarnham and County of Essex sold to Thomas Wood.
