On 25 April 1784, John Gordon witnessed the will of James Jones of the County of Essex and Parish of Southfarnham. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 13, pages 456-458.]
On 1 March 1794, a John Gordon and Milly his wife of Essex sold to Benjamin H. Munday. For 44 pounds 10 shillings current money, a tract on which John Gordon now lives, by estimation 71 acres, in the Parish of St. Anns, bordering the lands of James Younger, Joshua Longess and Robt. Beverley. Signed John Gordon, Milly her X mark Gordon. Witnesses: James Fogg, Stephan his X mark Munday, Benj. Stokes. Ordered recorded 15 September 1794. On 20 October 1795, a division of the estate of John Gordon was made by Thomas Wood Sr., James Paul, and Tho. Allen. A widow’s dower was devised to Rachel Gordon. The remainder of the estate was divided into fifths, with one fifth to William Gordon, deceased, one to Alexander Gordon (who is “to receive Williams do. as heir”), one to Vincent Gordon, one to John Gordon, and one to Robert Gordon.
