On 20 October 1795, a division of the estate of John Gordon was made by Thomas Wood Sr., James Paul, and Tho. Allen. A widow’s dower was devised to Rachel Gordon. The remainder of the estate was divided into fifths, with one fifth to William Gordon, deceased, one to Alexander Gordon (who is “to receive Williams do. as heir”), one to Vincent Gordon, one to John Gordon, and one to Robert Gordon. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 15, pages 197–198.]

On 19 June 1809, an inventory of the estate of Robert L Dunn was recorded, submitted by William Goode, Abraham Williamson and Robert Gordon. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 17, page 128.]

On 25 January 1814, Robert Gordon witnessed the will of his brother Vincent Gordon, who was “feeling myself afflicked with a violent and alarming disease”. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 18, pages 22–23.]

The will of Robert Gordon of the County of Essex was dated 21 March 1815. Sick and weak, suffering under a dangerous disease. [See the will of his brother Vincent.] To Mahally Doggins the youngest daughter of Mrs Ann Doggins, £50 when she comes of age. Rest of estate of my four children Saphronia, Laura, Threshley and Agnes. Constant Hardy to manage estate. Signed Robert Gordon. Witnesses: Thos B W Gray, George Purkins. Proved on 17 April 1815 by Thos B W Gray. Certificate of letters of administration of the goods, chattles and credits of Robert Gordon granted to William Gordon with Susanna Gordon and Elizabeth Gordon his securities, bond of $1,200. On 18 May 1815, William Gordon, Susannah Gordon and Elizabeth Gordon were bound in the penalty of $1,200 for William Gordon’s administration of the goods, chattels and credits of Robert Gordon, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 18, page 189.]

On 26 May 1815, an inventory and appraisal of the estate of Robert Gordon was made by Richd Woodward, James Montague, and Barker Minter. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 18, pages 198–199.]

The estate of Robert Gordon in account with William Gordon from 1815 to 1816 was settled by James Montague, Graves Burke and George Hill, and ordered recorded on 21 July 1817. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 18, pages 435–436.]

The estate of Robert Gordon, deceased, in account with William Gordon, administrator, from 1818 to 1821 was ordered recorded on 17 April 1826. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 20, pages 377–378.]

In an undated petition, orator William Gordon with the will annexed of Robert Gordon complained that Rachel Gordon mother of the sd Robert died in 1815 intestate. Robert’s legacies went to Sophronia, Laura, Threshley and Agnes. Sophronia and Threshley died soon after the death of their father. [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 37, item 37-F-21.]
