On 18 September 1815, Walter Dix, orphan of James Dix, made choice of Lewis Dix to be his guardian. [Essex County, Virginia, Order Book 42, page 58.]

An undated petition from orators and oratrices Thomas Dix, James Dix, Tandy Dix, Walter Dix, Addison Allen and Melissa his wife who was Melissa Dix and Catharine Dix states that James Dix died intestate, that Lewis Dix took administration of his estate, that Lewis then died and that Thomas M. Henley was appointed administrator de bonis non. Relations of the orators and oratrices not stated. The complainants, filing against Thomas M. Henley, sought the sale of the slaves from the estate, granted by decree on 16 December 1816. Catharine Dix was awarded one-third share as her dower right. In an undated petition, orators Thomas Dix, James Dix, and Walter Dix infant by Thomas Dix his next friend complained that Melissa Allen sister of your orators died in 1817 an infant without issue, leaving your orators and Tandy Dix only heirs at law. [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 37, item 37-G-17.]

In 1820, Walter Dix was taxed for one white male above the age 16 and one horse, mare, colt or mule. [Essex County, Virginia, 1820 Personal Property Tax Book.]

On Thursday, March 17 1820, Mr. Walter Dix and Miss Judith Boughton, both of Essex County, were married by the Rev. Peter Davis. [Library of Virginia, Henley Marriage and Obituary Database, citing Richmond Enquirer, 31 March 1820, page 3, column 5.]

On 21 November 1820, Henry C. Howerton, Richd St. John, John Howerton and Walter Dix were bound $2,000 for Henry C. Howerton’s administration of the estate of Griffin Harper. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 19, page 158.]

On 22 August 1821, in the case of the Commonweath of Virginia against Walter Dix and George Taylor, defendants, In a presentment of the 19th of March 1821 for fighting and making an affray at Henry C. Howertons tavern in this County, Came the prosecuter for the Commonweath, and also the Defends by their Attorney, and the said Defendants say they are not Guily in manner and form as against them in the Information is alledged and of this they put themselves upon the County and the prosecution aforesaid doth likewise and thereupon came a Jury to wit Thomas Fogg, Gabriel Gatewood, Geo. T. Greenwood, William Greenwood, Robert Ball, Samuel Greenwood, Chs G. Layton, Jameson Moody, James Croxton, James Dunn, Henry Barton, and Edmond Covington, who being elected tried and sworn the truth to speak upon the issue joined, upon their oaths do say that the Defendants are guilty in manner and form as against them in the information is set forth, as … the prosecutor by replying hath alledged and they do assess the fine against Dix to Ten Dollars, and against Taylor to Five Dollars. Therefore it is Considrd by the Court that the Commonwealth recover against the said Defendants the fines aforesaid by the Jury in form aforesaid assessed and the Costs of this prosecution, and that the Defts be taken &c — [Essex County, Virginia, Order Book 44, page 41.]

On 18 November 1833, Augustus G. D. Roy and Edward M. Ware were bound $2,000 for Augustus G. D. Roy’s administration of the estate of Walter Dix. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 23, page 143.]

On 19 November 1833, an inventory and appraisal of the estate of Walter Dix was made by Benja Blake, Geo: W. Sheeton, and A. S. Boughton. Included woman Ellen and children Philip and Horace. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 23, page 258.]

Orators William Dix, Walter Dix and James Dix infants by Benjamin Blake their next friend. That in 1833 their father Walter Dix died intestate seized of 50 acres and slaves leaving your orators and Catharine Dix his only children. [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 38, item 38-J-20.]
