On 19 December 1808, John Chamberlaine and James Gatewood were bound in the penalty of $200 for James Chamberlaine’s administration of the goods, chattels and credits of Sally Chamberlain, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 17, page 102.]
On 19 June 1809, an inventory and appraisal of the estate of Sally Chamberlayne, deceased, was submitted to court by Hundley Moody, John Collins and Major Boughan. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 17, page 126.]
An undated bill of complaint states that Sally Chamberlayne died about September 1808 leaving children Nancy, Polly (under age), Curtis (under age), Leonard (under age), John and Lucy who married James Gatewood. [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 13, item 13-B-24.]
