Muse of the County of Essex filed for a Confederate pension, stating that she was the widow of James Mundie Croxton, who served in the 55th Virginia Infantry, and died “at Mrs Gouchers[?} near Brooke Church during the war”. She was 72 years old, had lived in Essex County her entire life, was married in December 1859 by Rev. Robt. T. Henley; husband died in June 1862 at “Camp Goucher” of typhoid and pneumonia. She was female; white; widowed; born 27 August 1837; age 80 years, 4 months, 23 days; occupation house wife; born in Virginia; father was Dr. Leonard Henley, who was born in Virginia; mother was Sarah A. Perkins, who was born in Virginia; informant was J. L. Henley of Tappahannock; cause of death was pneumonia (duration 10 days); contributing factor old age; burial on 21 January 1917 at Cedar Level.
