Frances Jane was mentioned in the 19 November 1835 will of her father, William Taylor, proved on 20 June 1836. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, pages 47–48.]

Orator and oratrice James Durham and Frances his wife who was Frances Coates, widow of Thomas Coates decd petitioned the Chancery Court. That Thomas Coats died some years since intestate leaving a widow and two children namely Sarah Jane and Anne Thomas his only heirs at law.
