On 20 January 1717/18, John Dickenson witnessed the will of his father-in-law John Crow, signing his name John dickinson. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 3, pages 28–29.]

John Dickenson was mentioned in the 12 December 1719 will of his mother-in-law Elizabeth Crow, who appointed him an executor. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 3, page 160.]

The will of John Dickenson of the County of Essex was dated 18 December 1724. Very sick and weak. To two sons Peter and John Dickenson all land equally divided when they attain the age of 21. To loving wife Judeth Dickeson her lawful 1/3rds of estate during her natural life. Children Peter John Elinder Eliza & Rossman Dickinson. Wife Judith to be executrix. Signed John Dickinson. Witnesses: Richd his R [sideways] mark Cooper, Wm Covington, John Davis. Proved 17 August 1725. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 4, pages 105–106.]

On 17 August 1725, James Dix, Judith Dix, William Gray and John Watkins were bound £400 sterling for James Dix’s and Judith Dix’s execution of the will of John Dickenson. Signed James his E mark Dix, Judith her E mark Dix, William Gray, John Watkins. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 4, pages 106–107.]

The estate of John Dickenson in account with James Dix Exor was settled by Henry Purkins, Wm Gatewood and Jos Mann. Mentions Scooling of Peter & John Dickinson. Twice mentions the estate of Elizabeth Crow. Ordered recorded 22 March 1737/8. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 6, pages 120–121.]
