On 2 June 1832, James Dyke and Edward M. Ware were bound unto Thomas Gresham, the executor of the will of Joseph Janey, in the penalty of $600. Whereas Joseph Janey deceased by his will did devise unto James Dyke three hundred dollars to pay for land lately purchased, and where as Gresham has paid the money, then James Dyke will pay unto the estate a due proportionof all such debts or claims against the estate by reason of this payment, otherwise the obligation to be void. On 14 June 1836, an inquisition held before Larkin Hundley, justice of the peace, was taken at William Steward’s in Essex County upon the view of the body of William Goode of the county aforesaid, and upon the oath of Nancy Stewart she states that William Goode, not having God before his eyes, but being seduced and moved by the instigation of the Devil, at William Stewart’s spring in the county, did shoot himself voluntarily and feloniously, as a felon of himself, killed and murdered against the peace and dignity of the Commonwealth.
