On 21 August 1820, Moore F. Brockenbrough, Sthreshly Rennolds, Archibald Ritchie, Carter Mitchell, Joseph Janey and Thomas Barnes were bound in the penalty of $120,000 for Moore F. Brockenbrough’s administration with the will annexed of Richard Barnes. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 19, pages 141–142.]
On 12 March 1821, Rebecca Barnes, widow of Richard Barnes Esquire, deceased, late of the Town of Tappahannock, renounced the benefit of Richard’s last will and testament. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 19, page 183.]
