The will of Ann L. Butler of the County of Essex and State of Virginia was dated 1 February 1843. All land of which I may die seized and my Lot in the Town of Chapel Hill in the State of North Carolina to my sons John S. Thomas P. B., Henry T and William Butler. My bed and household furniture to my Grand daughter Ann S. Lewis. My executor to have a Tombstone erected over my Grave similar to the one over my Fathers Grave. To son Henry T. Butler $100 over and above what I have given him. Balance of money and Bonds to be divided between son in Law Warner Lewis, and all my children, but the portion for my daughter Lucy R. Harris to be held in trust for her by Warner Lewis during the lifetime of her Husband William O. Harris. Daughers of said Lucy, not yet 21. Warner Lewis to be executor. Signed Ann L. Butler. On 19 February 1844, Warner Lewis and Richard Baylor were bound $4,000 for Warner Lewis’s execution of the will of A. S. Butler deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 25, page 220.]
