On 21 June 1798, a division of the land of Oswald Davis, deceased, was made by H. B. Brooke, Henry Garnett, and J. Sale, with lots distributed to W. Salvator Jones and Sally his wife, William Hill and Clara his wife, and William Brooken Sale and Nancy his wife. Ordered recorded on 20 February 1804. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 16, page 267.]

On 6 December 1798, a division of the slaves of the estate of Oswald Davis was made by Henry Garnett, J. Sale, and H. B. Brooke, recorded on 20 February 1804. Lots of equal value were distributed to William S. Jones (Tom, Harrison), William Hill (Phill), and William B. Sale (Dorinda, Vera). [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 16, page 266.]

The will of William Hill was dated 23 February 1804. Sick and week. To my wife during her widowhood all my estate, but if she should marry then she to have one-third of the estate and the remainder to my two daughters, Suckey Waller Hill and Clarissa Hill. Beloved wife Clarissa Hill and my friend John Jones to be executors. Signed Wm. Hill. Witnesses: Wm. F. Gatewood, Edmund Jones, Charles Lathorn. Codicil mentions brother Thomas. Proved 16 April 1804. On 17 July 1804, John Jones and Erasmus Jones were bound in the penalty of $5,000 for John Jones’s executorship of the last will and testament of William Hill. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 16, page 300.]

On 19 October 1804, an inventory and appraisal of the estate of William Hill, deceased, was made by R. T. Haile, Tk: Noel, and Leod. Sale, and was submitted to court and ordered recorded on 20 October 1804. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 16, pages 442–443.]

The estate of William Hill, deceased, in account with John Jones, executor, from 1804 to 1805 was returned to court and ordered recorded on 22 November 1814. [Essex County, Will Book 18, pages 67–69.]
