John was mentioned in the 8 April 1807 will of his brother, Samuel Dishman, proved on 15 June 1807. He was to be executor. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 17, pages 18–19.]

The will of John Dishman was dated 28 June 1819. To my sister Sarah Beazly one feather bed and furniture. To Matilda Harmon all the rest of my estate, but if she should die without an heir, then the estate to be equally divided betwen my brothers and sisters. Andrew Rennolds and Daniel Rennolds to be executors. Signed John Dishman. Witnesses: Andrew Rennolds, Samuel Dishman, Robert Toombs. Added provision for servant Billy and his children. Proved on 19 July 1819. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 19, pages 55–56.]

On 19 July 1819, Daniel Rennolds and Andrew Rennolds were bound in the penalty of $500 for Daniel Rennolds’s executorship of the estate of John Dishman, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 19, page 56.]

On 13 August 1819, an inventory and appraisal of the estate of John Dishman was made by James M. Garnett, Thos. Pitts, and James M. Garnett Jr. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 19, pages 62–63.]

The estate of John Dishman in account with Daniel Rennolds from 1819 to 1823 was ordered recorded on 17 October 1823. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 20, pages 41–42.]
