William Montague was mentioned in the 8 February 1810 will of his brother, John Montague, proved on 21 May 1810, and was to be co-executor. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 17, pages 169–171.]

On 21 May 1810, William Montague, James Webb, Thomas Brockenbough and Austin Brockenbrough were bound in the penalty of $50,000 for William Montague’s administration with the will annexed of the goods, chattels and credits of John Montague, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, page 171.]

The estate of John Montague, deceased, in account with William Montague, administrator, from 1818 to 1821 was settled on 19 May 1821 by Joseph Janey, John Saddler, and Henry Street. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 19, page 217.]
