On 10 December 1768, an appraisement of the estate of Jonathan Dunn was made by James Banks, William Dunn B, and Luke Covington, and was returned to court on 21 May 1770. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 12, pages 388–389.]

The will of Luke Covington was dated 18 December 1782. To beloved wife Sarah. Children Richard, Anne, Elizabeth, Thomas, and Griggory. Wife and friends Major Thomas Rowe, Joseph Bohannan, and William Edmondson to be executors. Signed Luke Covington. Witnesses: W Roane, Richd. St John, Thos. Crutcher, J Bohannan. Proved on 17 February 1783. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 13, pages 365–366.]

The estate of Luke Covington, deceased, in account with Joseph Bohannan, deceased, executor, from 1783 to 1813 was settled by Francis Smith, James Webb and Joseph Janey, and ordered recorded on 15 June 1818. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 18, pages 493–495.]

On 22 January 1813, a division of the slaves of the estates of Luke Covington, deceased, and of Sarah Covington, deceased, was made by F. Smith, Chs. Howerton, and Jno. Smith, with lots to Richard Covington, Thomas Covington, John Trible in right of his deceased wife who was Elizabeth Covington, and to Philip Mann in right of his wife who was Ann Covington. An additional child of Luke Covington, Gregory Covington, is now deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will book 18, pages 37–39.]
