Gabriel Cauthorn was mentioned as deceased in the 15 March 1836 will of his mother, Martha T. Cauthorn, proved 19 June 1837. “I wish it understood further as I have here made no provision for the child of my deceased son Gabriel that it is not for want of affection for the memory of that dear child or from any insensibility to the condition of his offspring but in consideration of liberal advances made him by his father during his life time & since by me, and the well founded expectations too that this child will be noticed with particular attention & regard by all my children.” [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, page 121.]

On 18 December 1837, James W Cauthorn and Robert S Cauthorn were bound in the penalty of $2,000 for James W Cauthorn’s administration of the estate of Gabriel T Cauthorn, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, page 229.]
