Philip S. Spindle was mentioned in the 28 February 1834 will of his grandfather, Mordecai Spindle. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 23, pages 304–306.]

Philip Spindle was mentioned in the 15 March 1838 will of his grandfather, Barbee Spindle, proved 16 April 1838. Unto daughter Virginia Garnett the tract of land now in possession of her husband Thomas Garnett called the Dingen tract, and negroes Bob, Annetend[? microfilm copy not clear], Letty, Achilles, Robert, Lindsay, Lucy, Eliza, Anthony, Caroline, Martha, Mary & Chaney. To my two grand children, Philip and Marchella Spindle, the following property viz Ben, Morris, Anarchy[?], Anarchy Jr, Lucy, Polly, Susannah, Armstead Jr., James, William, Matilda, Thomas, Roy & Henry. The residue of estate to be sold, with money distributed among my children and grand children: to my daughter Frances Rennolds one seventh; to my daughter Virginia Garnett one seventh; to my son Barbee Spindle one seventh; to my son Joseph Spindle one seventh; to my daughter Elizabeth Spindle one seventh; and one seventh to be divided among my grand children Catharine Chowning, James Bowie, Philip Spindle, and Marcella Spindle, the remaining one seventh to be equally divided among my four grand Children Welton Spindle, Rebecca Spindle, John Spindle, and Archibald Spindle, to be held by Daniel Rennolds for the benefit of Welton, Rebecca, John and Archibald until they shall severally attain the age of eighteen years. Philip S. Spindle and Virginia Morcella Spindle in account with Thomas B. Garnett, trustee, from 1840 to 1841 was ordered recorded on 14 April 1841. Mentions hires of slaves Morris[?], Armistead, Jim, William, Annaka, Lucy, Polly, Old Ben, and Anaka, and also Suckey and 4 children for support and clothing, noting that Suckey died in the month of January 1840.
