A birth affidavit signed by his father, Joseph Davis, on 26 July 1941 states that Joseph Harold Davis was born on 17 March 1899 in Ozeana, Essex County, Virginia. The affidavit states that Joseph Harold Davis now resides at “121 S. Potomac St. Baltimore, Maryland” and that he is Joseph’s son. The affidavit states “He was born to my deceased wife in my home while I was on the premises.” Signed Joseph Davis of Upright, Virginia. Occupation of Joseph listed as a carpenter.

A birth certificate, which was apparently issued based on the above affidavit, gives birth date as 17 March 1899, at 8:00 a.m.
