Although the family Bible lists a marriage date of 9 March 1881, the City of Baltimore records provide the following: Charles Kopp married Minnie Strohline, both of Baltimore, on 9 October 1881. Both were single and white; he was 24 and she was 20. His occupation was cooper. The license was issued on 3 October 1881, and was filed on 5 November 1881. The minister was L. D. Maier. On 21 May 1884, a white female child was born at 184 S. Dallas Street, Baltimore, Maryland, to Minnie Kopp, maiden name Ströhlein, born in Baltimore, and Charles Kopp, a laborer, born in Maryland. This was their second child. Medical attendant was Mrs. Louise Kraft of 61 Penna Ave. [Baltimore City, Maryland, Return of a Birth 71719.]

On 17 May 1888, George R Willis of Baltimore City in the State of Maryland sold to Charles Strohlein and Charles Kopp. For $850, a lot on the east side of Burke street, 141 feet 5 inches from the corner formed by the intersection of the east side of Burke street and the south side of Lancaster, being one of the lots which by Deed of 11 February 1888 was assigned by Reinhard Ripken to the said George R Willis. On 17 May 1888, Charles Strohlein and Charles Kopp executed a mortgage to the Fifteenth German American Building Association of Baltimore City. Whereas the said mortgagees being members of the said Body Corporate and having thereof received an advance of $416 upon their two shares of stock (which two shares of stock are hereby redeemed by the Body Corporate), they the said mortgagers in consideration of $1 grant unto the mortgagees a lot on the east side of Burke street, 141 feet 5 inches from the corner formed by the intersection of the east side of Burke street and the south side of Lancaster street. On 10 April 1889, a white female child was born at 823 S. Burke Street, Baltimore, Maryland, to Minnie Kopp, maiden name Stroehlein, born in Baltimore, and Charles Kopp, a laborer, born in Baltimore. On 28 March 1890, Susannah Strohlein administratrix of the personal estate of Charles Strohlein deceased of the City of Baltimore and State of Maryland sold to Charles Kopp of the same. Whereas the party of the first part in pursuance of an order of Orphans Court on 8 March 1890 did sell to the party of the second part all the estate, right, title and interest of the said decedent in the property hereafter described, for $400, a lot of ground on the east side of Burke Street, 141 feet 5 inches from the corner formed by the intersection of the east side of Burke street and the south side of Lancaster, which place of beginning is designed to be at the center of an alley two feet side between the house on the lot being described and the next house adjoining… “Being the same property which was conveyed to said party of the second part and Charles Strohlein by George R Willis by deed dated May 17th AD 1888.” Annual ground rent of $37.50. On 28 March 1890, Charles Kopp of the City of Baltimore and State of Maryland entered into a mortgage with Frank C. Bressler for $300.00 and his promissory note of this date payable two years after with interest and two other primissory notes of $12 payable one and two years after the date respectively. For a lot of ground of the east side of Burke Street, 141 feet 5 inches from the corner formed by the intersection of the east side of Burke street and the south side of Lancaster. On 28 March 1890, Susannah Strohlein certified that she had paid to Wilhelmina Kopp and Charles Kopp her husband, $113.47, in full of the said Wilhelmina’s share in the estate of Wilhelmina’s deceased father Charles Strohlein. On 27 July 1893, Charles Kopp sold property on Burke Street in Baltimore City to Robert L. Gill, it being a parcel of land that had been conveyed by Susannah Strohlein, adminstratrix of Charles Strohlein, to Charles Kopp on 28 March 1890:
This Deed make this Twenty Seventh day of July in the year Eighteen hundred and ninety three between Charles Kopp of the City of Baltimore in the State of Maryland of the first part and Robert L Gill of the City and State aforesaid of the second part Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the Sum of Five Dollars ($5.00) the said Charles Kopp doth grant unto the said Robert L Gill his Executors administrators and assigns All the piece or parcel of ground situate lying and being in the City of Baltimore aforesaid which is described as follows that is to say Beginning for the same on the East Side of Burke Street at the distance of One hundred and forty-one feet and five inches South from the corner formed by the intersection of the East Side of Burke Street and the South Side of Lancaster Street and which place of beginning is designed to be at the centre of an alley two feet wide between the house on the Lot now being described and the house on the lot next adjoining on the North and running thence South binding on the East Side of Burke Street twelve feet and Six inches to the centre of the partition wall between the house on the lot now being described and the house on the lot next adjoining on the South thence running East parallel with Lancaster Street and through the centre of said partition wall to the end thereof and continuing the same course in all Seventy four feet and one inch to the west side of an Alley ten feet wide there being thence Northing binding on the west Side of said Alley ten feet wide with the use and privilege thereof in common twelve feet and six inches to intersect a line drawn East from said place of beginning through the centre of said Alley two feet wide with the use and privilege thereof in common and then reversing the line so drawn and binding thereon Seventy four feet and two inches to the place of beginning Being the same piece or parcel of ground which by deed dated March 28th AD 1890 and recorded among the Land Records of said City in Liber JB No 1285 folio 314&c was conveyed by Susannah Strohlein administratrix to said Charles Kopp Together with the buildings and improvements thereon and the rights ways and appurtenances thereto belonging or appertaining To Have and To Hold the parcel of ground above described and intended to be conveyed hereby with the rights and appurtenances aforesaid unto the said party of the Second part his personal representatives or assigns for all the residue of the term of years yet to come and unexpired therein with the right and benefit of renewal from time to time forever Subject to the payment of the annual rent of $37.50 to whoever may be entitled to the same payable in equal half yearly payments on the first day of January and July in every year And the said party of the first part covenants that he has done no act to encumber said property that he will warrant specially the property hereby conveyed and that he will execute such further assurances of said land as maybe requisite Witness the hand and seal of said grantor

On 31 May 1895, a female white child was born at 823 S. Montford Avenue, Baltimore City, Maryland, to Maggie [sic] Kopp, maiden name Stroehlein, born in Baltimore, and Charles Kopp, a laborer, born in Baltimore. This was their ninth [sic] child. On 13 July 1896, Charles and Minnie Kopp purchased a parcel of land on the west side of Hare Street (now Decker Street) near Elliott Street from John Gluth:
This Deed made this thirteenth day of July in the year one thousand eight hundred and ninety six between John Gluth of the City of Baltimore in the State of Maryland of the first part and Charles Kopp and Minnie Kopp his wife of the same place of the second part Witnesseth that in consideration of the sum of Seven hundred and seventy five dollars the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged the said John Gluth doth grant and assign unto the said Charles Kopp and Minnie Kopp his wife and the survivor of them their personal representatives and assigns all that lot of ground situate in the City of Baltimore aforesaid and described as follows that is to say Beginning for the same on the line of the west side of Hare Street at the distance of eighty five feet south from the corner formed by the intersection of the west side of Hare Street and the south side of Elliott Street which place of beginning is designed to be at the southwest corner of Hare Street and an alley ten feet wide there being and running thence south binding on the west side of Hare Street thirteen feet to the centre of the partition wall there being thence west through the centre of said partition wall and continuing the same course parallel with Elliott Street in all sixty five feet to the east side of an alley ten feet wide there being thence north binding on said alley last mentioned with the use of the same in common thirteen feet to the south side of the ten foot alley first mentioned in this description and thence east binding thereon with the use thereof in common and parallel with Elliott Street sixty five feet to the place of beginning Being the same lot of ground which by a Deed bearing day the 15th day of May AD 1889 and recorded among the Land Records of Baltimore City in Liber JB No 1242 foilo 116&c was assigned by Matthew Muller to the said John Gluth and Laura Gluth his wife and the survivor of them the said Laura having since departed this life leaving the said John surviving her Together with the buildings thereupon and the rights alleys ways waters privileges appurtenances and advantages thereto belonging or in anywise appertaining To Have and to Hold the said described lot of ground and premises unto and to the use of the said Charles Kopp and Minnie Kopp his wife and to the use of the survivor of them their personal representatives and assigns for all the residue of the term of years yet to come and unexpired therein with the benefit of renewal forever subject to the payment of the annual rent of Twenty six dollars payable in equal half yearly instalments [sic] on every first day of March and September And the said John Gluth covenants that he has done no act to encumber said land that he will warrant specially the property hereby granted and that he will execute such further assurances of the same as may be requisite Witness the hand and seal of the said grantor

On 13 July 1896, Charles and Minnie Kopp mortgaged two pieces of property, one on the east side of Burke Street near Lancaster Street, and the other on the west side of Hare Street (now Decker Street) near Elliott Street, to the Abbott Loan Saving and Building Association:
This Mortgage made this thirteenth day of July in the year one thousand eight hundred and ninety six between Charles Kopp and Minnie Kopp his wife of the City of Baltimore in the State of Maryland Mortgagors and the Abbott Loan Saving and Building Association Number One of Baltimore City a body corporate duly incorporated Mortgagee Where as the said Mortgagors being members of the said body corporate have received therefore an advance of Nine hundred dollars on nine shares of its stock the due execution of this Mortgage having been an condition precedent tot he granting of said advance Now Therefore this Mortgage Witnesseth that in consideration of the premises and of one dollar the said Charles Kopp and Minnie Kopp his wife do grant unto the said Abbott Loan Saving and Building Association No 1 of Baltimore City its successors and its assigns all those two lots of ground situate and lying in the said City of Baltimore and described as follows Beginning for the first thereof on the east side of Burke Street one hundred and forth one feet and five inches south from Lancaster Street running thence south on Burke Street twelve feet and six inches with a rectangular depth easterly of seventy four feet and one inch to the west side of a ten foot alley Being the same lot of ground which by a Deed bearing date the 28th day of July 1893 and recorded among the Land Records of Baltimore City in Liber J B No 1457 folio 522&c was assigned by Robert L Gill to the said Mortgagors subject to an annual rent of Thirty seven dollars and fifty cents and in which Deed said lot is more particularly described And Beginning for the second thereof on the west side of Hare Street eighty five feet south from Elliott Street runs thence south on the west side of Hare Street thirteen feet with a rectangular depth westerly of sixty five feet to the east side of a ten foot alley Being the same lot of ground which by a Deed bearing even date herewith and recorded simultaneously with these presents was assigned by John Gluth to the said Mortgagors in which Deed said lot is more particularly described Together with the improvements thereon and the rights or appurtenances thereto belonging or appertaining To Have and to Hold the said lot of ground and premises unto the said Abbott Loan Saving and Building Association No 1 of Baltimore City its successors and its assigns during the residue of the term of years yet to come and unexpired therein with the right and benefit of renewal of said term forever subject to the payment of the year rent of $37.50 on the lot firstly described and an annual rent of $26.00 on the lot secondly described If however the said Mortgagors shall make the payments and perform the covenants on their part contained then this Mortgage shall be void And the said Charles Kopp and Minnie Kopp his wife for themselves their heirs executors administrators and assigns covenant with the said Abbott Loan Saving and Building Association No 1 of Baltimore City its successors and its assigns to pay and perform as follows that is to say to pay the Mortgagee or its assigns at its place of business in Baltimore City on every Thursday evening the weekly sum of Three dollars and thirty three cents that is to say the sum of Two dollars and twenty five cents as dues and the sum of One dollar and eight cents as interest until the said advance of $900 shall be repaid in weekly dues provided that for every One hundred dollars of said advance when repaid in dues as aforesaid Twelve cents of the weekly interest shall abate from the time when such $100 are fully paid also to pay all ground rent and taxes for which the property hereby mortgaged may become liable when payable also to pay all fines that may be imposed may become liable when payable also the pay all fine that may be imposed on them by the said Mortgagee in accordance with its constitution and by laws and its act of incorporation and to keep the improvements on the said ground fully insured from loss by fire for the use of the Mortgagee in some company acceptable to the said Mortgagee And it is agreed that until default is made the Mortgagors or their assigns may retain possession of the mortgaged property And the Mortgagors consent that a decree may be passed for the sale of said property by any Court of competent jurisdiction (the sale to take place after a default in any of the conditions of this Mortgage shall have continued for eight weeks) under the provisions of the sections 692 to 704 inclusive of Article 4 of the Maryland Code of public local laws or any supplement thereto or this Mortgage may be foreclosed under any law or laws of said State of Maryland intended to facilitate the regular or extra judicial proceedings on Mortgages as fully and in the same manner as if special assent and powers were hereby given and granted Witness the hands and seals of the said Mortgagors

Mr. Charles Kopp
The funeral of Mr. Charles Kopp, who died at his late home, 823 South Montford avenue, took place from Faith English Lutheran Church, yesterday afternoon. Rev. A. S. Weber conducted the services. The pallbearers were from Enterprise Lodge, No. 15, Shield of Honor, of which the deceased was a member. Interment was at Mount Carmel Cemetery. H. Sander & Sons had charge of the funeral.
Another reads [paper unknown, no date]:
KOPP.-On the 25th inst., at his late residence, 823 S. Montford ave., Charles, beloved husband of Minnie Kopp aged 43 years.
The death book at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Baltimore, Maryland, entry #10336, states that Charles Kopp was buried 28 June 1900. He was born in Maryland, died at age 43, lived at 823 S. Montford Avenue, died of acute nephritis. He was buried in lot 119 U in the south east corner.
