On 25 May 1820, Carl Ströhlein was born in Schrozberg, Württemberg, to Johann Peter Ströhlein and Anna Maria Ströhlein, and was baptized on 27 May 1820. [Evangelische Kirche Schrozberg (OA. Gerabronn), Taufen (Uneheliche), Heiraten u Tote 1646–1878.]

Name and birth date as 25 May 1822 from family Bible.

On 16 September 1846, a Carl Strelein arrived at the port of Baltimore on the ship Favorite. He was traveling alone, aged 25 years, male, nationality listed as Schrozberg, occupation tailor, bound for St. Louis. The ship Favorite was sailing from Bremen, #48, and arrived with 133 passengers. Other passengers were bound for St. Louis; no other travelers listed Schrozberg as a nationality. [National Archives microfilm 255.]

Chas. Strohlein married Susanna Huhn on 20 February 1854 in Baltimore City, Maryland. [Hall of Records Issue Bk Lsn 1851-1865, folio 551.]

On 9 October 1854 in Baltimore, Maryland, Charles Strohlein became a naturalized citizen of the United States. His country of birth was given as Wurtemberg; he had declared his intention on 23 September 1853, and the witness to his whereabouts during that period was Leonard Sehman. Death date of 25 March 1887 from family Bible in the possession of Alverta Young Duke. The official death certificate from Baltimore City, however, indicates a date of 11 March 1889 and burial on 13 March 1889.

On 17 May 1888, George R Willis of Baltimore City in the State of Maryland sold to Charles Strohlein and Charles Kopp. For $850, a lot on the east side of Burke street, 141 feet 5 inches from the corner formed by the intersection of the east side of Burke street and the south side of Lancaster, being one of the lots which by Deed of 11 February 1888 was assigned by Reinhard Ripken to the said George R Willis. On 17 May 1888, Charles Strohlein and Charles Kopp executed a mortgage to the Fifteenth German American Building Association of Baltimore City. Whereas the said mortgagees being members of the said Body Corporate and having thereof received an advance of $416 upon their two shares of stock (which two shares of stock are hereby redeemed by the Body Corporate), they the said mortgagers in consideration of $1 grant unto the mortgagees a lot on the east side of Burke street, 141 feet 5 inches from the corner formed by the intersection of the east side of Burke street and the south side of Lancaster street. Charles Strohlein died on 11 March 1889. His death certificate provides the following information: date of death 11 March 1889; full name Chas. Strahlein; age 69; white; married; occupation cartman; born in Germany; lived in Baltimore City 30 years; died at 823 S Burke St; cause of death (first) senility (cystitis) (second) exhaustion; duration of last sickness 3 weeks; buried on 13 March 1889 at 1st Evangelical Cemetery; physician Frank Bressler. [City of Baltimore, Maryland, Health Department Office of Registrar of Vital Statistics Certificate of Death A15833.]

On 20 February 1890, Letters of Administration on the Estate of Charles Strohlein deceased were granted to Susannah Strohlein, who entered into a bond of $800 with Charles Breebach[?] and Gottleib Reimler[?] her securities. [Baltimore City, Maryland, Proceedings of the Orphans Court, R.T.B. 66, page 321.]

On 7 March 1890, on application by the petition of Susannah Strohlein Administratrix of Charles Strohlein deceased, it was ordered that the said Administratrix was authorized to sell by private sale, at not less than its appraisement, all leasehold, interest, estate, etc. in the leasehold estate and improvements therein contained in the inventory of property returned by the said Administratrix. On 19 March 1890, on the application of Susanna Strohlein Administratrix of Charles Strohlein it was ordered by the Orphans Court that the said Administratrix give the notice required by law for the creditors to exhibit their claims against the estate by causing advertising to be inserted over a week for four weeks in one of the daily newspapers published in the City of Baltimore. On 28 March 1890, Susannah Strohlein administratrix of the personal estate of Charles Strohlein deceased of the City of Baltimore and State of Maryland sold to Charles Kopp of the same. Whereas the party of the first part in pursuance of an order of Orphans Court on 8 March 1890 did sell to the party of the second part all the estate, right, title and interest of the said decedent in the property hereafter described, for $400, a lot of ground on the east side of Burke Street, 141 feet 5 inches from the corner formed by the intersection of the east side of Burke street and the south side of Lancaster, which place of beginning is designed to be at the center of an alley two feet side between the house on the lot being described and the next house adjoining… “Being the same property which was conveyed to said party of the second part and Charles Strohlein by George R Willis by deed dated May 17th AD 1888.” Annual ground rent of $37.50. On 28 March 1890, Susannah Strohlein submitted to the Baltimore City Orphan’s Court her administration account of the estate of Charles Strohlein. She charged herself with the inventory and personal estate of the deceased returned on 8 March 1890 at a value of $400.00, and craved allowances for the following payments and disbursements:
