On 16 October 1940, Emmett Grayson Davis registered for the World War II draft, giving his address as 3416 Odonnell Street, Baltimore, Maryland; age 22 years; date of birth 22 February 1918; born in Baltimore, Maryland; American citizen; name of person who will always know your address Mrs. Ida Grace Davis, mother, of the same address; unemployed; white; height 6 feet; weight 145 pounds; gray eyes; brown hair; light complexion. Card is overwritten in red ink, Deceased Jan 15/42.

Information from Pearl Irene Davis Kopp. She said he was the first son in the family.

His headstone gives dates of 1918-1942. He is buried with his parents and a brother.

The death book at Mount Carmel Cemetery Annex, Baltimore, Maryland, states that Emmitt [sic] G. Davis died on 15 January 1942 and was buried on 17 January 1942, aged 23 years, 10 months, 24 days. No cause of death is listed. He died at 3416 O’Donnell Street. He is buried in annex lot I 87 SW114, first grave from the east.

A death notice stated:
DAVIS.—On January 15, 1942, EMMETT G., JR., beloved son of Emmett G., Sr., and Ida G. Davis (nee Stevens). Funeral from the home of his parents, 3416 O’Donnell street. Notice later. [The Sun (Baltimore), 16 January 1942, page 20.]

A death notice stated:
DAVIS.—On January 15, 1942, EMMETT G., JR., beloved son of Emmett G., Sr., and Ida G. Davis (nee Stevens). Funeral from the home of his parents, 3416 O’Donnell street, on Monday at 1 o’clock.
