“Andrew Hundley born at Rose Hill 23rd Augt. 1804 — Died at Woodland near Dunnsville 1/4 to 10 OClock P.M. the 14 March 1855” [Hundley Family Bible, Library of Virginia Accession #24437.]

In an undated petition, Thomas Hunley, Larkin Hunley, Austin Hunley, Elizabeth Hunley, Edwin Hunley, Andrew Hunley and Nancy Hunley, the said Larkin, Austin, Elizabeth, Edwin, Andrew and Nancy infants under the age of 21 by Elizabeth their next friend and in her own right, complained that Thomas Hunley died on ____ 1815 intestate leaving a widow Elizabeth and eight children, your orators and oratrices and George M. Hunely who is the administrator. [Throughout the petition, the name Hunley was originally Hundley, but all the Ds have been crossed through.] [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 36, item 36-I-16.]

In about 1820, orators and oratrices Geo: M. Hundley, Larkin Hundley, Charles Layton and Betsey his wife who was Betsey Hundley, Austin Hundley, and Andrew Hundley, Edwin Hundley and Nancy Hundley infants by Geo: M. Hundley their next friend complained to the Chancery Court. That Thomas Hundley the father of your orators and oratrices, and also of Thomas Hundley, died some years ago. On December 30 1825, a final division of the estate of Elizabeth Hundley was made. “Received of Thomas Hundley admr of Elizabeth Hundley decd the sum One hundred and thirteen dollars & four & 1/4 cents it being the amount due to each of us from said Thomas Hundley as the admr of the said Elizabeth Hundley decd and is in full for his administration on said Estate” Signed Geo: M Hundley, Austin Hundley, Charles G Layton, Edwin Hundley, Andrew Hundley, Robt Mackan, Larkin Hundley. On 2 October 1833, an inventory and appraisal of the estate of Traverse Gatewood was made by Andrew Hundley, James Dunn, and Smith Young. On 21 July 1834, Larkin Hundley and Andrew Hundley were bound in the penalty of $400 for Larkin Hundley’s administration with the last will and testament annexed of the estate of Lydia Alexander. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 23, page 287.]

On 29 September 1834, Andrew Hundley made purchases at the sale of the estate of Philip Clarke, deceased. He also kept the accounts of the sale of the property. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, pages 21–22.]

On 19 June 1837, Larkin Hundley, Andrew Hundley, and Wm. Oliver were bound in the penalty of $10,000 for Larkin Hundley’s administration of the estate of Edwin Hundley. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, page 138.]

On 16 March 1840, Larkin Hundley and Andrew Hundley were bound in the penalty of $2,000 for Larkin Hundley’s administration of the estate of an infant child of Robert Dobbins deceased who died unnamed. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, page 450.]

Orators and oratrices James Trible, Andrew Hundley and Nancy his wife, George M. Trible, Smith Young and Margaret K. his wife, Fielding D. Piggott and Eliza his wife, William R. G. Trible and John S. Trible complained to the Chancery Court. That John Trible the father of your orators and oratrices died on 20 September 1844 also leaving the following other children: Peter and Austin M. Trible, Emily Covington wife of Richard L. Covington, Eliza Kemper, John, Selah, Summerfield, Franklin & Frances Holbrook children of Frances Hollrook, the said Frances being a daughter of John Trible deceased. Andrew Hundley married Martha E. Sizer on 8 January 1862 in Essex County, Virginia. He was 57 and widowed, a farmer, born in Essex County and residing there. She was 31 and single, born in King William County, Virginia and living in Essex County. Parents were Thomas Hundley and Elizabeth McTyre, and George Sizer and Mary Turner.
