Ann Gatewood was mentioned in the 1744 will of her grandmother Amy Baker as “my Grand Daughter Ann Gatewood the Daughter of my son James Gatewood”. She received “one Negrowoman Named Jenny and her Increase Also a Negro Boy Called will”. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 7, pages 335–337.]
On 7 December 1751, Ann Gatewood witnessed a deed from John Chamberlain to James Gatewood and Water Dunn, all of Essex County. [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 26, pages 97–99.]
