Benjamin Gatewood was listed in the 1744 will of his grandmother Amy Baker as “my Grandson Benjamin Gatewood the Son of my Son James Gatewood”. Benjamin received the tract of land on which Amy lived and also a Negro named Guy. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 7, pages 335–337.]
