On 15 June 1751, Richard Brown witnessed a deed from Henry Boughan and his wife Jane to Thomas Henry Brooke. [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 25, pages 174–176.]

On 11 July 1754, a Richard Brown witnessed a deed from Francis Brown and Christiana his wife of Southfarnham Parish, Essex County, to William Fretwell of the same. [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 27, pages 16–20.]

On 20 November 1768 a Richard Brown witnessed the will of Thomas Dunn of the Parish of South Farnham and County of Essex. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 12, pages 405–406.]

The will of a Richard Brown of the County of Essex and Parish of Southfarnham being in perfect health was dated 18 January 1774. Beloved wife to be lent whole estate during her widowhood. Then to daughter Elizabeth Brown all estate. If she should die or have no issue, then estate to be divided between godsons Major Boughan and Cornelious Brown. Executors to be William Dunn W, Major Boughan and Beloved Wife. Signed Richard Brown. Witnesses: HPurkins, William Griggs. Presented on 16 January 1787 by Major Boughan and proved by sundry Witnesses.
