The will of Ambros Armstrong of Essex County and Parish of Southfarnham was dated 28 February 1768. Very sick and weak. All provisions not to be appraised but to be for the use of my beloved wife and children. To beloved wife the “Bed and furniture I now am on” and young mare. To son Thomas Armstrong, gun. Four youngest children, namely Ambrose, John, Mary and Elles, to have one years schooling. All rest to be divided equally between wife and children. Wife and son Thomas to be executors. Signed Ambros his + mark Armstrong. Witnesses: Elisabeth Waagnor, Elizabeth her + mark Armstrong, Benja Wagganer. Proved on 21 November 1768. Widow renounced right of the will in favor of Archibald Ritchie, Gentleman, to whom certificate granted of letters of administration with the will annexed. On 1 December 1768, an inventory and appraisal of the estate of Ambrose Armstrong was made by Benja Waggener, Nathan Waggener, Wm Edmondson. Total £53.4.0. Archibald Ritchie administrator. Ordered recorded 17 April 1769. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 12, pages 357–358.]
