James Farguson was mentioned in his father John Farguson’s will of 1715. He received the plantation whereon his father then lived. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 3, pages 8–9.]

James Farguson was mentioned in the 5 November 1717 will of his brother Joseph Farguson. proved 19 March 1717/18. All the rest of my estate to my brother James Farguson being what nature or quality whatsoever saveing on young horse I give unto John Castone. My brother James Farguson executor. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 3, pages 10–11.]

An inventory and appraisal of the estate of Joseph ffergeson was made 18 April 1718 by John Haile, Henry Shackelford, and Bryant Edmondson. Total £26.8.8 plus additions. Returned by James ffarguson on 17 September 1718. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 3, pages 50–51.]

On 13 December 1718, Wm Cox, Tho: Meedes and Elizabeth his wife, John Wood and Thomas Wood of the parish of Southfarnham and County of Essex, planters, sold to Bryant Edmondson of the same. For £35 sterling, the remainder of a tract of 400 acres bordering Majr Wm Aylett, Alexander Younger, part of an original tract of land of ffrancis Brown, Daniel Brown, John ffarguson and James ffarguson, 150 acres total or thereabouts. Signed Wm his C mark Cox, Tho his T mark Meedes, John his + mark Wood, Tho: his T mark Wood, Elizabeth her E mark Meede. Witnesses: Alexander Younger, James Boughan, Wm his + mark Dicks. On 14 March 1725, James ffarguson was mentioned as a bordering landowner in a deed from Bryant Edmondson to John Croxton. [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 18, page 166.]

On 21 May 1734, John Nalle, James Farguson and Samuel Farguson were bound £100 sterling for John Nalle’s guardianship of Richd. Nalle, “and shall well & truly pay or Cause to be paid unto the sd Orphan all such Estate & Estates as now is or hereafter shall come to the hands of ye sd John Nalls as soon as the sd orphan shall attain to Lawfull age”.
