Joseph Farguson is mentioned in the 1715 will of his father John Farguson. He received the right to live on land granted to his brother James “tell he can better provid himself” and was also to receive proceeds from the sale of the personal estate. He is described as being one of the two youngest sons. He was named executor with his mother Ann. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 3, pages 8–9.]
The will of Joseph Farguson was dated 5 November 1717. Being sick and weak of body. Unto my brother Samuell Ferguson all my land as I have in Beverly park Patent. All the rest of my estate to my brother James Farguson being what nature or quality whatsoever saveing on young horse I give unto John Castone. My brother James Farguson executor. Signed Joseph Farguson. Witnesses: Daniel Browne, Elizabeth her E mark Browne. On 19 March 1717/18 presented in court by James Farguson. Proved by Daniel Brown and Elizabeth Brown.
