Tamzin was mentioned in the 4 September 1784 will of her father, Thomas Dix, proved 16 February 1789. “I give to my daughter Tamzen a Negro Girl Esther & her increase & to her heirs and assigns I also a bed & furniture forever ... I give to my five daughters Ursula, Tamzin, Susanna, Katy & Sally after my wifes decease or Marriage all my stocks of Cattle to be equally divided between them & their heirs & assigns — but if either of my sd daughters should be dead having no child at the death or Marriage of my said wife, then I desire their Share of my sd. Stock of Cattle may be equally divided between the Surviving Sisters...” She was also entitled to a share of the remainder of the estate. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 14, pages 137–140.]

The will of Tamzin Dix of South Farnham Parish was dated 25 February 1811. To brother Lewis Dix negroes Daniel and Fanny, to sister Catharine Dix negro Isaac, to sister Susanna Dix negro Joe, to neice Julia Boughan negro Billy, and to sisters Catharine and Susanna Dix jointly negro Esther. The remainder of the estate to be divided between brother Lewis Dix and sister Catharine Dix. Executors: Lewis Dix and H. W. Latané. Signed Tamzin her x mark Dix. Witnesses: Warner Lewis, William C Latane. Recorded 21 October 1811. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 17, page 316.]

On 21 October 1811, Lewis Dix and Warner Lewis were bound in the penalty of $3,000 for Lewis Dix’s executorship of the estate of Tamzin Dix. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 17, pages 321–322.]

An appraisal of the estate of Tamzin Dix was made 30 December 1811 by Lewis Moody, Wm Andrews, Charles F Southall. No total but about £550. Recorded 18 January 1813. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 17, page 445.]
