Joseph Reeves was mentioned in the 9 January 1686 will of his father Henry Reeves. Joseph and his brother James were to receive land jointly, and Joseph received additional land. He was to receive a share of the personal estate. Joseph was to be of full age when he attained the age of eighteen years and was also to receive one year’s schooling. On 19 August 1707, an inventory of the good and chattles of James Reeves was taken in Essex County, Virginia in obedience of a court order of 11 August 1707. The appraisers were Robert Mills, William Grinall, and John Waggoner. Total valuation 112-14-11, plus an additional 11-13-2. “Presented by Henry Reeves, Joseph Reeves and Thomas Munday & Mary his wife late Mary Reeves Admrs of the Estate of James Reeves…” [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 13, pages 33–35.]
Joseph Reeves was mentioned in the 1709 will of his mother Elizabeth. [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 14, page 17.]
The will of Joseph Reeves was dated 3 December 1716. Wife Jane to have one third of land during her life. Three sons, Jackson, Joseph and James. Eldest son Jackson, middlemost son Joseph, youngest son James. Signed Jos: Reeves. Witnesses: Jos: Baker, Ann Lewis, David his S mark Lewis. Proved 16 July 1717. On 16 July 1717, Jane Reeves, John Bates, Godfrey Stanton, and Charles Gresham were bound £400 sterling for Jane Reeves’s execution of the last will and testament of Joseph Reeves.
