John Edmondson was mentioned in the 19 August 1741 will of his father James Edmondson was dated 19 August 1741. He was to receive land on the west side of the Swamp that runs into Dunns Mill Dam, and was named an executor of the will. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 6, pages 340–341.]

On 17 March 1780, a deed was made out between Andrew Crawford of Westmoreland County, who was husband to Susannah, daughter of Augustine and Hannah Boughan, Hannah Boughan being the daughter of James Griffing the elder deceased (and Andrew having had a daughter Nelly by Susannah); John Chamberlain Junr of Essex County, son of John Chamberline and Ann; Griffing Boughan of Essex County, son of Augustine and Hannah Boughan; John Meredith of King and Queen County, husband of Mary, daughter of Augustine and Hannah Boughan; Richard Lowry of Spotsylvania County, husband of Betty, daughter of Augustine and Hannah Boughan; John Tankersley of Spotsylvania County, husband of Suky, who was a daughter of Sucky, who was a daughter of Augustine and Hannah Boughan; John Edmondson of Essex County, for account of his daughter Judith by the said Hannah; and Ralph Meredith of King and Queen County, husband of Margaret, daughter of Augustine and Hannah Boughan, all of the first part.
