Joseph Allen was mentioned in the 1719 will of his father Erasmus Allen. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 3, page 196.]
On 17 August 1743, Joseph Allen witnessed a bond from John Allen Sener of Essex County to ffrancis Jones and Barbary his wife of the same. [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 26, pages 67-68.]
On 17 October 1753, the Chancery Court of Essex County ordered Benjamin Allen to pay unto Joseph Allen 260 pounds of tobacco for attending court two days “and once Comming and returning seventy miles out of Spotsylvania County as a witness for him against Thomas Burk”. [Essex County, Virginia, Order Book 19, page 279.]
