In about 1815, orator and oratrix Robert G. Haile and Matilda his wife complained to the justices of King and Queen County. That Edward Wright late of this county died on ____ 1815 intestate leaving the following heirs: Matilda the wife of Robert G. Haile, William A. Wright, and James A. Wright, Mary S. Wright, Edward Wright, David P. Wright and Sally Wright, the said James, Mary, Edward, David and Sally being infants under the age of 21, and Lucinda E. Matthews an infant daughter of Lucinda E. Matthews deceased who was married to William B. Matthews. Administration of the estate of Edward Wright was granted to William A. Wright and William B. Matthews. The land is partly in King and Queen and partly in Essex. [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 28, item 28-N-48.]

On 21 July 1817, William A. Wright, Robt. G. Haile, and Geo. W. Gatewood were bound in the penalty of $3,000 for William A. Wright’s administration of the goods, chattels and credits of James A. Wright, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 18, page 437.]

A bill of complaint from approximately 1822 states that William Halbert died intestate with fifty acres of land, leaving John Halbert, James Halbert, Thomas Halbert and Mary Gouldman (wife of Richard Gouldman), children of his deceased brother James; Muscoe, Andrew, Alexander, George, William H., and Nelly Newman, Rosey Fora (wife of John Fora), Polly Tucker (wife of William Tucker) and Patsey Divers (wife of William Divers), children of a deceased sister Hannah Newman; William H. Hutchason, Charles Hutchason & Elizabeth Richards (wife of Jno. C. Richards) children of a deceased sister Patty Hutchason; William A., Edward and David P. Wright, grandchildren of the said Patty Hutchason, and Mary Haile and Emily Haile (by Robert G. Haile their father), great grandchildren of Patty Hutchason; John Mitchell, Alice Vawter and Nancy Dollins (wife of William Dollins), children of a deceased sister Ann Mitchell; Caty Ingram and John Ingram, grandchildren of Ann Mitchell; John, Edna and Nancy Mitchell, grandchildren of Ann Mitchell; Elizabeth Gatewood, a sister of the said intestate; and Philip Noel, Lucy Hutchason (wife of Jno Hutchason) and Polly Alexander (wife of Robert Alexander), children of a deceased sister Frances Noel. On 15 January 1827, William B. Matthews and William A. Wright were bound in the penalty of $500 for William B. Matthew’s administration of the estate of John Gordon, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 21, pages 94–95.]

Wm A Wright was mentioned in the 17 June 1834 will of D. W. Pitts, proved 17 July 1837. “I give to Wm A Wright, Edward Wright, David P Wright, Salley Ellis, Johnson W Pitts, Leonard P Sale, Mary L Sale five hundred Dollars each.” [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, pages 139–140.]

On 19 December 1834, a division of the slaves belonging to the estate of Major Arthur L Barnes, deceased, was made, with Delphia & Child, Peter, Joshua, and Sarah chosen by Mary C Barnes; Willis, Lucy, Ben, and Fanny allotted to William A. Wright; Anthony, Jenny & child Tasco, George, and Horace allotted to Philip A Bramham; John, Polly & Child Winney, and Emanuel allotted to Claiborne W Gooch; and George S of Geo:, Nelly, and Toby allotted to Thomas R Barnes. A letter dated 12 April 1841 from Mary E. Bohannon (who signed her name) to William A. Wright (but the outside of the letter being addressed to Mr Larkin Hundley, Montagues, Essex County Va.) seems to have been sent from Mathews C. H. Va. [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 40, item 40-A-9.]

Derieux Sheriff of Essex County and Committee Administrator of Barbara Bohannon deceased and also as administrator de bonis non of Thomas Allen decd, Austin Brockenbrough late Sheriff of Essex County and Committee administrator of Addison Allen decd, James Allen admor of Elizabeth B. Allen decd, Mary Owen, Cordelia A. Owen, and Willy Ann Owen infants under 21 who sue by James Owen their father and next friend, James Durham and Elizabeth A. his wife who was Elizabeth A. Banks, Lucy C. Banks, Achilles Lumpkins, James Wright, Jonathan Hart and Mary his wife who was Mary Allen, Thomas J. G. B. Allen, Elizabeth Allen, Pleasant T. Southall and Catharine his wife who was Catharine Allen, George W., John B., Susan A., and Augustus J. F. Allen, the last three infants under the age of 21 by James Allen their father and next friend complained to the Chancery Court. That Banks Allen died in 1813 intestate. His estate was divided to his mother Elizabeth B. Allen, Barbara a sister who married John Bohannon, a sister Lucy who married William Banks, a sister Polly who married James Owen, a sister Caty B. Allen and three brother Thomas, Addison and James. Elizabeth B. Allen his mother died in ____. Barbara Bohannon died in 1815 and her estate was administered by Peter J. Derieux. Lucy Banks died in 1815 leaving a husband who has since died and four children: Elizabeth A. Durham, Lucy C. Banks, Thomas A. Banks and James W. Banks. Thomas A. Banks has been arrested as an insolvent debtor. James W. Banks has sold his interest to Achilles Lumpkin. Polly Owen died in 1835 leaving Mary C. Owen, Cordelia A. Owen and Willy Ann Owen her only children. James and Polly have conveyed their rights to William A. Wright. Caty B. Allen died in ____ testate and her estate is administered by Washington H. Purkins. Thomas Allen died leaving a last will and testament now administered by Peter J. Derieux. Addison died in ____ intestate and his estate is administered by Austin Brockenbrough. On 2 April 1850, William Beazley of the first part, William A. Wright of the second part and Robert G. Haile of the third part executed a deed of trust. Whereas William Beazley is indebted to Robert G. Haile $825 with interest from the 22nd day of March last by bond, for $1 paid by William A. Wright, the said William Beazley conveys slaves Sam, Cheney, George and Martha (the 2 lasts named subject to a deed of trust executed by the said William Beazley to B. W. Brockenbrough to secure a debt due to Brockenbrough Micou & Co on 16 September 1848. William A. Wright is to allow William Beazley to remain in possession of the slaves until default of $825, at which time the slaves are to be sold at auction. Signed William his x mark Beazley, W. A. Wright. Ordered recorded 2 April 1850.

On 16 March 1852, a negro man Sam, property of the estate of William Beazley, was scheduled to be sold by Henry Beazley as representative of the estate to satisfy a debt to Robert G. Haile. This account was settled by W. A. Wright, trustee. [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 50, pages 272–273.]
