Lewis Moody was mentioned in the 13 October 1765 will of his grandfather George Moody. He was to receive property loaned to his parents, Jeremiah and Elizabeth Moody, after their decease. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 13, page 379.]

On 19 May 1801, Lewis Moody answered a bill of Wm Snodgrass, stating that he is the grandson of George Moody and son of Jeremiah Moody deceased. That George Moody died intestate sometime in 1782 or 1783. [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 17, item 17-K-1.]

On 8 May 1804, Hundley Moody and Jesse Boughan were bound for the marriage of Hundley Moody, bachelor, and Catharine Boughan, spinster. Witnesses: Jno Haile junr, W Matthews. Lewis Moody certifies that his son Hundley is upwards of 25 years old. [Virginia State Library, Research and Information Services Division, Essex County Marriage Bonds, Box 1, 1804–11.]

On 18 July 1814, Jameson Moody, Lewis Dix, Carter Moody, Hundley Moody, and Larkin Moody were bound in the penalty of $16,000 for Jameson Moody’s administration of the goods, chattels and credits of Lewis Moody, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 18, pages 56–57.]

On 26 October 1814, an inventory and appraisal of the estate of Lewis Moody was made by Warner Lewis, John Lumpkin and John Waring. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 18, pages 173–174.]

The estate of Lewis Moody, deceased, in account with Jameson Moody, administrator, for 1814 to 1816 was settled by John Jones, Warner Lewis, and John Waring on 23 May 1816. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 18, pages 308–310.]

An undated petition stated that Lewis Moody died in June 1814, leaving a widow Sally and children Hundley, Larkin, Carter, Nancy, Dolly, and Sally, and Afra and George, both under 21 by their next friend Lewis Dix. Another daughter, Betsey Moody, married Samuel Woodson. Administration of Lewis Moody’s estate was granted to another son, Jameson Moody. [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 27, items 27-E-41 and 27-E-42.]
