In August 1848 (exact date not in record), Nathaniel I: B: Whitlocke special Commissioner sold to Charles L. Boughan of Essex County. Whereas by a decree dated 17 November 1845 in a suit in chancery Boughan against Shearwood, George W. Purkins was appointed Commissioner to sell at auction 41 acres purchased by Frances Boughan conveyed by her by deed to her six several children on 20 April 1843, and whereas George W. Purkins in pursuance of the said decree sold the land as required to Charles L. Boughan the highest bidder at $82, now therefore Nathaniel I: B: Whitlocke for $82.00 paid to George W. On 1 October 1878, N. I. B. Whitlocke purchased goods at the sales of the personal estate of Thomas Boughan. N. I. B. Whitlocke purchased two iron bands for $.10, a parcel of iron for .10, a rake for .25 and a buggy spring for .12. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 29, pages 756–757.]
On 1 November 1858, John T Boughan sold to N I B Whitlocke. John T Boughan grants "a bay horse, a sucky and harness, a bed and furniture, a house erected by the said Boughan on the land of Catharine Minter In Trust to secure Catharine Minter a debt of two hundred and fifty Six dollars the balance due her for board of himself and horse and also to indemnify her as his Security in a bond to Joshua L Boughton for $545-84/100 with Interest from 1 July 1857 till paid".
