John Cox was mentioned in the 24 November 1782 will of his father, proved on 15 April 1793. To daughter Molly Cox one bed and furniture. To daughter Katy Cox one bed and furniture. All the remaining part of my estate to be sold to the highest bidder and the money to be equally divided between all my children, namely John Cox, Elizabeth Ball, Amy Davis, Clary Johnson, Molly Cox, and Katy Cox. Ann Cox and John Cox to be executors. John presented the will in court of 15 April 1793, and certificate was granted to him to obtain probate. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 15, page 25.]
On 15 April 1793, executorship of the estate of Henry Cox was granted to John Cox. John Cox, William Ball and William Jones acknowledge their bond in the penalty of £300. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 15, pages 25–26.]
