Martha was mentioned in the 2 September 1801 will of her husband, Thomas Brizendine. “…second, I Lend to my beloved wife during her life or widowhood, the whole of my estate both real and personal … Lastly I do appoint my beloved wife Martha and my friend John Evans, executrix and executor to this my last Will and testament…” On 21 June 1802, proved by the oaths of Dianna Dunn, William Webb and Randolph Brizendine. Certificate granted to Martha Bnzendine for her obtaining probate, and ordered to be recorded.

On 21 June 1802, Martha Brizendine was appointed executrix of the last will and testament of Thomas Brizendine deceased. Martha Brizendine and Francis Webb acknoweldge their bond in the penalty of $1,500. Signed Martha [X] Brizendine, Frans. Webb. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 16, page 150.]

On 23 August 1804, Martha Brizendine answered a bill in chancery: Answer of Martha Brizendine, widow of Thomas Brizendine, to bill of Achilles Brizendine, and Ann and Thomas Brizendine, infants under 21. That Thomas left children Tamsin You[?]n [basically illegible], Susannah, Travis and Elizabeth. That Thomas was a brother of Randolph and Armisted. Dated 23 August 1804.
