In 1790, Aris Alexander was listed on the tax lists of King & Queen County, Virginia, charged with one male over the age of 16.
On 18 December 1801, William Jones and Amea his wife of the Parish of Southfarnham and County of Essex sold to Aris Alexander of the same. For £82.5, a parcel in the said county containing by estimation 12 acres more or less, bounded by the lands of Nathaniel Dunn decd, Capt Thomas Allen, the main Road that leads from Millers Tavern to Hobbs=Hole, and Richard Jones, it being part of a Tract of land which was deeded by Thomas Miller decd of King & Queen to Benjamin Jones of Essex County and by the said Benjamin Jones was deeded to Thomas Bohannan & from him to the above said William Jones. Signed William Jones, Amea Jones. Witnesses: Reuben Garnett, JBohannan, Carter Wood, Richd Miller, Vincent Gordon, George Purkins. On 21 December 1801 ordered to be recorded. On 17 June 1805, Nancy Alexander and Thomas Hill were bound in the penalty of $100 for Nancy Alexander’s administration of the goods, chattels and credits of Aris Alexander, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 16, pages 354–355.]
On 26 August 1805, an appraisal of the estate of Aris Alexander was made by L. Booker, John Jones, and Coleman Jones, ordered recorded 22 April 1806. In an undated petition from the mid-1830s, orator Obadiah Alexander petitioned the court. That his father Aris Alexander died many years ago intestate with land of 25 acres. His widow married Joseph Jones and has since died. He left the following children your orator, Mahala now the wife of Richard L. Haile, Nancy the wife of James H. Greenwood, Maria who married Lewis D. Brooks and died before her mother leaving Beverley and Alexander Brooks, both under 21. [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 39, item 39-C-17.]
